Fabrizio Giannini, Viareggio, Italy 1949
Fabrizio Giannini (b.1912) commenced his violinmaking in 1934. He had an extremely personal style as evidenced by this violin. This violin has a slightly shorter rib structure and dramatic fluting. Most striking of all is the cabernet-red varnish which is a mixture of both oil and spirt bases and is of superb and unique quality. This varnish has a vivid color and luminosity which must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The instrument is wonderfully, almost impossibly light in the hand. It has a lively powerful tone that is bright, breathy, complex and rich. This is an extremely healthy instrument and would be best placed in the hands of an advanced or professional musician looking for a hint of distinction.
