Jean Striebig (b.1910, d.1981) was one of the many good makers in Mirecourt in the early half of the 20th century. His work is often of a personal model, freely styled interpretations of the great old Italian masters. He studied under Leon Mougenout and established his own shop in 1935. This work displays excellent materials, exquisitely sculpted features and a distinct conception of body and of tone. This instrument possesses a deep, earthy sound that seems to evoke some ancient mystery.
