Salt Lake Valley New Horizons Orchestra

Sponsored by Midvale Arts Council and Charles W. Liu Fine Violins

On a regular basis we have adults come into our in our shop who want to begin playing a string instrument. We at Charles W. Liu fine violins saw a need for a New Horizons Orchestra in the Salt Lake Valley as a way to provide these adults opportunities to play in an ensemble and encourage their new-found pursuits. The participants come to the orchestra from different backgrounds. Some of them have played many years ago in their school days and have become "rusty". Others have never touched an instrument. Whatever their situation, the New Horizons Orchestra gives them an outlet to pursue their interests in playing the instrument of their choice. It is a fun, positive and rewarding environment to begin making music.

The New Horizons movement started in Rochester New York at the Eastman School of Music. Since that time this unique idea of engaging our aging population in music making has spread all over the United States. To find out more about this fast growing national organization log on to their website. www.newhorizonsmusic.org

We are delighted to have the support of Midvale Mayor JoAnn Seghini and Arts Council President Suzanne Walker. Also as a sponsor, Charles W. Liu Fine Violins will offer great prices on purchases or rentals of their instruments they will be using in the orchestra.

NHO has many benefits for its members. They receive affordable instruction in a group setting. These adults enjoy the association and the positive social experience. The group becomes a true synergistic environment, where the product is greater than the sum of its parts. When they play together often they sound much better than they would if they played alone. Music helps people connect and enjoy life. Giving adults an outlet to make music only brings joy into their lives.
