Charles W. Liu began his career in China at the Beijing Technical School of Instrument Making at the age of sixteen. He earned his degree of Luthier from the Violin Making School of America in 1997 and worked two years restoring instruments at Peter Paul Prier & Sons Violins. For over twenty years, Charles Liu has put his focus on making and restoring, and is nationally recognized for his work.

Charles Liu is also a sponsor
of the founder of the Stradivarius International Violin Competition. Charles W. Liu Fine Violins hosts the Stradivarius International Violin Competition approximately every four years at the University of Utah, giving players all around the world a chance to compete and perform in front of some of the world’s leading performers and pedagogues. In each of our competitions, we provided the winner with a genuine Stradivarius violin on which to perform during the final ceremonies. The Utah Symphony joins with us at each event and provides performance opportunities for our winners. Previous laureates have gone to phenomenon success including sweeping victories at the Menuhin Violin Competition, the Wieniawski Violin Competition, (among others) as well as prominent appointments to the London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and more.

Christopher Majdoch: Sales Manager - Los Angeles

Christopher Majdoch is a wildly passionate violinist and a lover of cinema. At seventeen, he received a congressional award in the arts. In addition to studying philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he studied violin and piano performance at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Christopher has worked at several annual film festivals and served as a production assistant for famed director, Michael Apted's last instalment in his "UP" docuseries. Blending his passion for music and cinema, Christopher enjoys landing the occasional gig, performing for major Hollywood tv shows, movies and commercials. He loves Los Angeles' vibrant and diverse arts scene.

Christopher has been working for Charles W. Liu Fine Violins since 2016 and has had the pleasure of serving customers at both of our locations. He is currently based in Los Angeles where he continues to train his eye on fine, rare and historic instruments and enthusiastically connects players of all levels to the perfect instrument and bow. It has been his privilege to help artists find their voice when selecting instruments. As a guest speaker, he has given talks on this subject at events hosted by the American String Teachers Association. An avid photographer, many of the pictures you see on our website and social media were taken by him. With Charles Liu, he has helped launch string programs at several schools in the greater Los Angeles area.
