Charles W. Liu Fine Violins - Los Angeles was previously located on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood. The building was the home of the original Hans Weisshaar violin shop which opened in 1947. It is astounding to think of the many greats who visited that site. Among them, were Nathan Milstein, Jascha Heifetz, Tosha Seidel, Mischa Elman, Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Heinryk Szering, Zino Francescatti, Michael Rabin, Pablo Casals, Roman Totenberg and many more. 

Hans Weisshaar is perhaps best known today for having published, together with Margaret Shipman, The Manual for Violin Restoration, sometimes referred to colloquially in our business as the bible of violin repair. Weisshaar was employed with Simone Sacconi at the prestigious shop of Emil Herrmann in New York prior to founding his Los Angeles Shop. 

During the early part of the Covid-19 pandemic, we relocated the shop to Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City / Sherman Oaks area. Our new shop blends a chic modern aesthetic with an old world charm.
