Michael Gene Scoggins, Salt Lake City, 1993
Michael Gene Scoggins (b.1954, d. 2008) was an important luthier in the Salt Lake City violinmaking scene for many years. His former wife and fellow master luthier, Carrie Scoggins is a friend of our shop there. His work, as displayed in this violin after Guarnerius, reminds us that one cannot go wrong with an honest and direct approach to making and a good use of solid and honest materials. His extraordinary wood selection, beautifully antiqued varnish and crisp, clean edgework make this a thoroughly reliable instrument that offers strength and intrigue for the conservatory-level or professional violinist.
