Anton Voit (b.1882) and Leroy F. Geiger (b.1900, d.1960) were skilled makers in the Chicago scene in the early part of the 20th century.
Voit descended from a long line of German violinmakers and immigrated to America just prior to WWI.
Geiger became an assistant to John Hornsteiner and worked alongside Carl G. Becker at William Lewis & Son. Voit & Geiger incorporated in 1923. In addition to making their own instruments, they imported and set up high-quality trade instruments from Europe. Geiger eventually moved to Los Angeles, CA. This violin was made especially for their shop in 1930 and possesses a beautiful one-piece back and ripe tone.
